PROPER FRACTION: Meaning, Definition- MindSpark.

Proper Fraction

Fraction means a part of a whole number. Generally, fractions are represented as \frac{\text{x}}{\text{y}}, where x and y are whole numbers where x represents numerator(the number which is on top of the fraction) and y represents denominator(the number which is on the bottom of the fraction) and y≠0.

As we can see in the image above, a whole can be divided in different ways, and we identify these different ways as the fraction(i.e, a part of the whole number).

We call a fraction a proper fraction when the numerator is less than the denominator i.e, the value of \frac{x}{y} should be less than zero.

EXAMPLES
